Red Flag 01-03

There are a few good observation points for Red Flag: Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, just outside the fence near the runway, and at the Nellis Ranges near Groom Lake. You can often see planes from  the ET Highway, but locations such as Power Line Overlook, Coyote Summit, and Cedar Pass Road have better photo opportunities. No planes were spotted near Cedar Pass, but Power Line Overlook served as a good viewing spot. Coyote Summit would of yielded better photos of the fighters that flew over the ET highway. The locations are described on the www.dreamlandresort.com website.

Once again, thanks to Magoo for the plane information.

Photographs from "powerline overlook" near Groom Lake.

German C-160 Transall (Yes, this plane was so close that those on the ground waved at the crew). [Nick from DLR identified this plane.]

C-141 Starlifter. Note that the camera is facing the town of Hiko.

Flares released from a passing plane to fool the enemies heat seeking missiles. Now the camera is facing the Tikaboo Valley.

These photos are from Nellis AFB near the runway. Click here for instructions on how to get to the location.

No matter where you park near the runway, the planes don't seem to have the same approach. The intent was not to photograph the belly of this F16, but the plane flew right over me.

These A10's may not be related to Red Flag. They were flying in formation around Nellis.
