Planes seen from Coyote Summit

This photo is to show how low these planes fly during Red Flag. The peak in the background is around 6200ft, and the height from which the photograph was taken is 5633. Note that the background looks a bit blurry because the camera was being panned to track the airplane.  The jet exhaust blurs the background image too.

I'm not sure, but I think the guy in back is looking at me! The plane is a British Tornado GR4. You can read about the gold star and other markings here. Thanks to Magoo and Gary Steadman for the information.

Note the USAF marking seen on top of the wing. Now that is a low flying airplane.

The scramble database for serial number 95-0105

This C17 Globemaster III is based out of Charleston AFB in Charleston North Carolina. The link to Charleston AFB contains a link to the 437th wing, but you need to enter the main page first to get the usual security warning.

Two well equipped A10's flew over me near Mount Sterling. The first one escaped the camera, but the second one yielded this somewhat blurry shot. Hey, these planes were really moving! From Magoo: 

The A-10 that you took out on the range from underneath is carrying AGM-65 Maverick training rounds (nicknamed 'blue ones', as opposed to live 'red ones'!), AIM-9M Sidewinder training rounds, and an ACMI pod.

F16 belly shot

This photo is interesting from the standpoint of the plane at the bottom of the photo going in the opposite direction. The planes arrive in formation at Nellis, but land one at a time. While one plane is landing, the others are circling. Now is a good time to mention that you should wear hearing protection while under the flight path. Note that the planes circle the field to stay near a protected area, rather than being over enemy territory. Now in reality enemy territory would be Las Vegas, but remember that this is a training exercise.

Surprisingly, this plane is not in the scramble database.

This B52 is probably older than anyone on the plane. Did I mention hearing protection??
