Stonewall Mountain

Instructions

If you follow the main road to this hike, you will reach gate 71 of the Nellis range. While this is interesting, it is also the wrong gate to use since it is locked.

range 71 signs

The laser warning sign is interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing a few laser beams hit the desert floor.

The proper entrance is at a gate closer to the edge of the range. This is the typical ranch gate that you would run into in the dark. [Been there, done that, cost me over a grand in body damage.]

The  sign is incorrect, that is, you will cross the Nellis range, as is shown on this auto navigation system. below.

Stonewall Spring

This is the spring itself, which has clearly eroded the rock. While there is camping space next to it, I would suggest camping further away since the local wildlife treks to the spring for water.

Targets

The short story is I didn't make it to the top of Stonewall Mountain for a variety of reasons, mostly with some difficulty in following the directions. [I now have the roads traced on a GPS.] I did photograph some of the targets on the range from one of the hills. Photographs are with a 400mm lens.
